Instructional Design

Industry: Software
The Need

A global provider of enterprise software and service solutions had purchased another software development company. The company needed to make sure that the training materials that accompanied the software were redesigned to their own standard of quality.

Solution

Dashe & Thomson provided a project manager and team of instructional designers, training developers, and writers to redesign and development of over 40 role-based instructor-led (ILT) and web-based (WBT) courses. We improved content by software design- and configuration-related gaps. We improved quality by filling instructional design gaps and developing a design, content, and style standard that brought consistency of training across the United States and European Union. We improved the learner experience by applying sound instructional design to existing courses, and improved flexibility by developing Web-based options at a lower cost.

Results

The result was that Dashe & Thomson was able to establish:

  • A repeatable process for developing and maintaining courses.
  • Efficient, flexible processes and templates for working with subject matter experts (SMEs) based on findings regarding the SMEs’ work preferences and limited availability.
  • Templates for courseware: instructor guide for classroom training and supporting PowerPoint presentation, classroom training participant guide, OnDemand template, and reusable objects.
