Blended Learning Solutions

Industry: Universities and Colleges
The Need

A state college organization was implementing a new internet-based HRIS system across its campus network. The system would be deployed to a user base with different levels of computer and systems proficiency as well as unique attributes dependent on campus setting and roles. Training needs were different for new versus experienced employees. There were multiple systems and business processes, and there was concern about how the complexity of HR decisions would be conveyed through the new system. Although the organization had produced and distributed a core set of training materials, there was still a lack of user confidence in the system.

Solution

Dashe & Thomson realized that as the system implementation was expanding, more functionality was being delivered to a broader audience. We determined that a more comprehensive, role- and process-based training program was needed. We decided to use a blended learning solution to meet the variety of audiences and the variety of needs. The solution included:

  • Foundational and basic skills eLearning courses for new users
  • Instructor-led hands-on, scenario-based courses for role-based tasks where problem-solving skills were critical
  • Ongoing support options, including feedback, mentoring, and coaching
Results

Dashe & Thomson was able to push out training and information to people in advance of a periodic process or function and to provide multiple training options to fit different learning styles. Our process-oriented training improved data quality, user confidence, and process consistency. We established best practices for training to be used in the future, including classroom instruction, train-the-trainer, coaching, WebEx, and lab sessions.
