ERP System Training – Case 1

Industry: Retail
Need

A national retailer of luxury consumer products was implementing SAP as its enterprise-wide technology solution. The company had committed to train employees at the its corporate headquarters and regional distribution centers using internal resources. A different solution was needed to train the 1,500 retail employees in more than 470 locations around the country. The company wanted to keep travel requirements for training to a minimum while ensuring that the retail employees were comfortable using the new SAP systems effectively on Day 1.

Solution

Dashe & Thomson designed and developed an eLearning solution to train the retail employees on the new system. The eLearning solution Dashe & Thomson developed for the company featured:

  • A course consisting of 10 modules, including a certification module at the end of the course. Employees were required to pass the certification before receiving system access.
  • Integration and deployment of the eLearning course via the company’s Learning Management System (LMS).
  • An instructional design focusing on a day in the life of a retail employee, rather than using a transactional approach. This provided the learners with a context for the transactions so they would know not only how to use the transaction, but also when and why.
  • An instructional design that incorporated both active and passive SAP simulations.
  • A variety of user interactions, knowledge checks, and review activities to ensure learner engagement.
Results

  • More than 1,500 retail employees were trained successfully over a two month period prior to the cut over to SAP.
  • No additional travel costs were incurred due to training or re-training of retail employees.
  • Leaner response to the course was overwhelmingly positive.
  • Retail employees were able to use the system on Day 1 to do their jobs.
