The Need

An international consumer foods company initiated an upgrade to their ERP reporting systems, moving from SAP Business Warehouse 3.5 to the most current SAP Business Intelligence suite. The goals of the upgrade were to provide increased reporting functionality, access to reports via both the internet and the user desktop, and standardize the look and feel of reports across all areas of the company. The company wanted documentation and training created to be easily accessed by users for effective use of the upgraded system.

Solution

Dashe & Thomson assisted company developers in designing and creating:

• A Center of Excellence SharePoint site to house and manage all training and documentation materials.
• Customized tool tips integrated within the web application itself and accessible to users by hovering over a button or icon in the web application.
• Customized system navigation documentation which could be accessed directly from the application or via the SharePoint Center of Excellence.
• Customized Report Help documentation for reports available primarily via the portal, which could be accessed directly from the report itself or via the SharePoint Center of Excellence.
• A Quick Start Guide for new users of the system to guide them through the process of getting started on the system, including requesting security, accessing the system, and finding help.

Results

Users and trainers were pleased with the accessibility of the documentation and training materials from multiple locations, both inside and outside the application. The SharePoint Center of Excellence site continues to provide multiple benefits including the ability to manage all documents relating to the system from a central location which is easily accessible. The site also allows the company to create new documentation or report help materials and integrate them into the system automatically, without the assistance of a developer.
