Give User Adoption the Respect it Deserves

User adoption is the single biggest challenge when implementing new technology – it is now and it has been for 15 years.  According to a study done by the Sand Hill Group and Neochange, the most critical factor for software success and ROI is effective user adoption (70% listed it as #1).  Organizational change came in at 16%, followed by process alignment at 13%, and software functionality at 1%.

It’s clear that getting a solid and rapid ROI on software projects has more to do with people and change than it does with technology.  Whether you’re implementing SAP, one of the many Oracle products, or the latest Business Intelligence tool, user resistance, misaligned business processes and lack of user skill and understanding are most commonly at the root of most failed technology initiatives.

Companies are spending next to nothing on social learning, and their frugality is going to come back to haunt them.  Like many enterprise learning companies, we are actively brainstorming ways to incorporate collaborative Web 2.0 technologies into our training programs, but rarely do we find a client that wants to create a robust learning environment comprised of both formal and informal components.

What Can March Madness Teach Us About Blended Learning?

Opening weekend of March Madness is over.  Yes, it hurts just typing it.  Although two weekends of mayhem remain, there’s nothing like that first weekend.  Those of you that enjoyed the non-stop college basketball action, whether at home, at the games, or in Vegas, are trudging back to your offices.  Some of you may have brackets that survived this year’s upset-happy opening rounds.  But like me, most of you have no hope.

Nonetheless, we were privy to four amazing days of basketball, and thanks to a new TV deal, we could view every second of it without buying an overpriced DirecTV sports package.  Thank you CBS and Turner!
